FOT Fusion Splicer Electrodes Rod Video Show
The fusion splicer electrode is an important part in the optical fiber fusion splicer. The discharge splicing of optical fiber is completed by the electrode rod, but many people do not understand that the electrode rod is a consumable item and it needs to be replaced when it reaches a certain life. Next, I will introduce the importance of electrode rod exchange and some knowledge about its service life.
Let's first understand the aging process of the fusion splicer electrodes. The electrode rod is visually observed similar to a very sharp needle. Although the metal material itself is very hard and there is no external wear, but it needs to withstand high temperature discharge for a long time At the beginning of the discharge, it will inevitably wear out slowly, of course, this is an ideal state.
The actual loss of the electrode rod during actual use is shown in the following figure. During the discharge process, due to high energy and high heat, the glass ions of the fiber itself diffuse and adsorb to the tip of the electrode rod, forming non-conductive insulating impurities. These impurities can be observed with the naked eye on the stick.
The generation of the insulating film will cause the arc to avoid its discharge, so that the original loss from the top may be changed to start from the rear, and the wear rate of the tip of the fusion splicer electrodes will become more irregular in the long run, making it very irregular .
In that case, the arc originally triggered by two stable tips will become extremely unstable, and it may be alarmed (discharged left or right) on the fusion splicer, so that it cannot provide a stable heat source for the fusion of optical fibers. , The final splice loss will not be ideal.
Therefore, the life of the fusion splicer electrodes may not be as long as we think. When the above situation occurs, in order to ensure the quality of the optical fiber splicing, a new fusion splicer electrodes must be replaced.
It is also very important to choose the original electrode rod. The fake and inferior fusion splicer electrodes has abnormalities such as high temperature resistance and different sizes. In this case, not only the life of the electrode rod will be short, but also the discharge voltage may be unstable. The situation will bring a burden to the power device inside the splicer, or even cause damage.
The operation of replacing the electrode is as follows:
(1) Before replacing the electrode, the user needs to turn off the power.
(2) Loosen the screws fixed on the electrode cover and remove the electrode.
(3) Install the new electrode into the electrode slot, install the electrode cover, and slowly tighten the screw.
(4) Observe whether the connection between the two electrodes is in the horizontal plane and in the vertical plane; if not, please reinstall the electrodes.
(5) Turn on the power, put the prepared optical fiber into the fusion splicer, and execute [Discharge Calibration].
(6) After the electrode replacement is completed, execute [Clear Discharge Times].
