YOU known that, there are two technologies of wavelength division multiplexing: dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM). It refers to multiplexing the close spectral spacing of a single optical fiber carrier in a specified optical fiber in order to utilize the achievable transmission performance. DWDM wavelength spacing is very close, because the closer the spacing, the more channels each fiber multiplexes, and the higher the bandwidth. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) G.694.1 standard regulates the nominal wavelength spacing of DWDM systems. There are 3 types of space between each channel: 0.4nm (50Ghz), 0.8nm (100Ghz) and 1.6nm (200Ghz).
The current cwdm fiber system has flexible expansion capabilities. Compared with the general single-channel system, the DWDM system not only greatly improves the communication capacity of the network system, but also makes full use of the bandwidth of the optical fiber. It also has many advantages such as simple expansion and reliable performance In particular, it can directly access multiple services and makes potential application prospects.
In principle, it uses an optical multiplexer to multiplex optical signals of different wavelengths into a single fiber for transmission. At the receiving end of the link, the mixed signal in the optical fiber is decomposed into different wavelengths by means of an optical demultiplexer The signal is connected to the corresponding receiving device. CWDM has 18 bands, from 1270nm to 1610nm, and the interval between each band is 20nm.
The most important advantage of dwdm module is the low cost. Since the wavelength interval of the CWDM system is wide, and the technical requirements of the laser are relatively low, the structure of the laser is greatly simplified, and the yield is improved. In addition, the power consumption and physical size of the CWDM system are much smaller than those of the DWDM system. In addition, CWDM optical modulation uses an uncooled laser and uses electronic tuning; while DWDM uses a cooling laser and uses temperature tuning. Because the temperature distribution is very uneven in a wide range of light wavelengths, temperature tuning is difficult and costly to implement. CWDM avoids this difficulty, thus greatly reducing costs. Currently, the cost of CWDM systems is generally only 30% of that of DWDM.
